Updates and Catching Up
I can’t believe it’s been a month now since Truman was born. That’s basically why you haven’t seen me post in awhile, though I’ve wanted to. Now there are so many things I want to post about! Consider this just a hodge-podge of things I’ve wanted to post in the last month.
The NICU & Ronald McDonald House
First off, I want to sincerely thank each one of you who prayed for us during Truman’s stay in the hospital. It was a really difficult time physically and emotionally, but we know we were and continue to be surrounded by the family of God and we sense God’s faithfulness in our transition to parenthoood - though it be challenging to say the least! What a joy Truman is, however, and we are so thankful to have him.
When Truman was in the NICU, and after I was discharged, I was able to stay at the Ronald McDonald House just across the street from the hospital. It was a huge blessing to be there. We didn’t really know much about this service before but next time we waltz into the nearest McDonalds, we’ll be sure to slap down some funds for the RMH now that we understand what a blessing it can be to so many people. Here are some pictures to give you an idea of what a neat place this was:
The room I stayed in at the RMH
This was the house kitchen. Each night a restaurant or grocer would donate food for supper, and any leftovers were put in the house fridge for us to help ourselves to. This was a serious blessing to not have to think about food!
These pictures are of two of Truman’s nurses in the NICU who took super great care of him! Above is Lavon, and below is Linda. They were so sweet and encouraging and helped us check out on our discharge day. Overall, we were extremely grateful for the amazing care both myself and Truman received at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.
Photo Shoot Gone Bad
A friend gave us a knitted pumpkin hat for Truman so I thought it would be cute to strip him down and get a picture of our “little pumpkin”. Needless to say, he did not like this photo shoot one bit. It’s still going in the scrapbook….![]()
A Weekend Visit
This last weekend my good friend Emily came to visit us! We hadn’t seen each other in quite some time so it was so good to catch up. She had a great time meeting Truman too and was a huge help with him when mommy needed a break. Here’s an awfully cute shot of the two of them.
On Saturday Emily, Truman and I went out to camp for lunch and then since Sam was driving hayrides for the Couples’ Retreat going on, we decided to join him, so Truman got to experience that for the fist time.
..what do you know, it put him to sleep!
Family photo opp!
We’re slowly but surely assuming a “new normalcy” to life around here, though, as Sam’s mom says, “there’s nothing that disrupts a household more than a newborn baby”. That’s the truth! We are just trying to learn each day more about Truman so that we can best care for him. It requires a total trust and dependance on our Savior. I’m learning to lean into Him completely for all that I need, and for all that Truman needs.
And don’t worry - we’ll be posting things about camp life here again too - it just seems like the last month has been pretty much all about this new little miracle that has entered our world. I’m sure many of you parents out there can relate. And hopefully, it won’t be another month before I post again!
