Youth Camps Have Begun!

Youth camps have begun and are in full swing.  We are so excited for the start of another summer with all these kids.  There are about 170 7 and 8 year olds here for the week.  Pray for the counselors as they minister to each of them.

This past weekend April had the opportunity to be involved with the “Hope For Today” tent meetings in Westboro.  The meetings were held under a big top tent, designed to be an outreach to the local community.  Many of the people involved in the program, Dave Koblish, Huntly Brown, and others, have traveled with the Billy Graham Association for years.  It was such a unique opportunity to be involved in that ministry.  Please pray for those that made a decision for Christ this weekend!

We are also excited to announce that we are at 87% of our support.  We are getting ready to send out a final letter to the rest of our mailing list inviting those to be involved in our ministry.  Please pray for that as well.

Arrival At Camp

What a blur the past few days have been!  We had a half day of school on the 31st and then moved to Camp.  Upon arriving, we put the rest of our storage items in a friend’s basement and then took the basic living items with us to one of the Missionary staff family’s house.  Currently we are staying in Brent and Diane Johnson’s basement apartment.  We have just received word that we will be able to rent a very nice apartment in Westboro, about four miles from Camp.

The day after we got to the Johnson’s, I was already busy with the many different projects that have been piling up and waiting for me.  The first was to take portraits of all of the new interns and LTD (college training program) students.  This year’s group is larger than it has ever been!

April and I are also working on a media project that will be played on Sunday, the 18th, just before the first junior campers arrive.  The project is a look back at the two weeks of counselor training.  Hopefully it will help inspire the counselors as well as the rest of the staff.

Sadly, we had to leave Asher to stay on the farm with my parents.  With the busyness of camp life, we just felt that it would be better for him to stay with my family than to have to stay in his kennel all day.  As soon as we have our own place to live, we will get him.

By the way, our support is up to 83%!  Thanks for your prayers and support!

Gideon

Are you ready for all of this? It is going to be a full update! Over the 17th through the 19th, we chaperoned an outdoor education trip to Fort Wilderness with Harvest. (That is the camp that my parents worked at for so many years) We studied all sorts of bacteria and cellular organisms. It was quite fascinating.

Since we were so close to Camp Forest Springs, we dropped off a load of our things at our good friend, Herbie’s house.

Memorial weekend was spent fending off the bloodthirsty black flies in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. It was a great time of paddling and hiking through the beautiful creation.

Tomorrow is only a half day of school and it is the last one of this year! We have had a splendid time here and have learned a tremendous amount. I was able to put together a DVD for the kids at school to help them remember what Harvest was all about and what an awesome year we had together. God has really used this time to prepare us for working with kids. We were forced to put together lesson plans and be able to teach meaningful things to the kids.

Somewhere around 1:00pm tomorrow, we will load into the cars and make our way to Camp. It is exciting to be able to return but I am also aware of the amount of work we will have. Please pray that God will make Himself to be our true sustaining power. We don’t want to do this on our own strength because we are weak. I want God to empower us to do His work in the same way he worked in Gideon.
