9:30 Update

Julie was checked 5 minutes ago and is 8-9 centimeters although closer to 9 than 8.  Midwife and the birthing center are hoping within the next half hour or so.

Julie is doing great now with the epidural and has had some rest and ready to go.

Got to go!

6:00 A.M. Update

Thanks to all who have been praying for Julie as she has been in labor for 22 hours now and counting. At 6:00 a.m. she was measuring in at 6 centimeters and still consistent hard contractions.  Julie asked for an epidural at 5:45 a.m. as she was totally exhausted and didn’t feel she could continue under current circumstances.  The lady who does the epidural (having a hard time spelling on 30 minutes sleep) just left and Julie is resting comfortably.  They went ahead and started her on Oxytocin to help speed up the process a bit.  They are hoping by or around 9:00 a.m. to be delivering baby.

Last night she was really doing good with contractions being 90 seconds apart for over three hours.  Then around 9:30 she had to lay down for her antibiotic’s and she was down for about an hour to an hour and a half.  Everything slowed down then and although the contractions have been strong, very inconsistent and very spread out.

On a side note: Julie is really excited today because despite the long process she has already been through, the nurse she had yesterday when we started, she is back again this morning.  Julie really liked having her yesterday and will no doubt enjoy having her for delivery.

Will continue to keep the website updated as information is available but it should be soon.

1:00 a.m. Update - Nothing New to Report

9:30 Report from the Hospital (Amended)

Just a quick update for those of you checking in on this site.  Julie was checked at 9:30 p.m. and she is between 4 and 5 centimeters dialated.  Definitely not four but not five either.  Contractions continue to intensify but have been on minute and a half contractions for about 3 hours now.  She is getting tired and catching rest as she is able.  We are finding that doing some stairs and walking the halls is really helping this time.  No one is in a hurry here at the hospital which has been a huge comfort for both Julie and I.  Will continue to keep this updated as information is available.  Looks like a due date baby though!

Continuing the Huffman Heritage

Tonight potentially marks the final evening of the Huffman family of three.  With Julie’s induction tomorrow, it is all but a sure thing that by this time tomorrow night, the Huffman family of Rib Lake Wisconsin will be a family of four.  Some people might get caught up on the “its their fourth anniversary this, so it has special meaning to add the fourth member of their family right before” or others who might say, they had so much fun with their first, they couldn’t wait to have another play parter for Simon.  While all of this might be true, the real reason this dad is so excited about tomorrow, the opportunity to add some more family legacy to the Huffman name.
You see when Julie and I started to think about having children, there was an unstated pressure I think I placed upon myself to have atleast one boy, that way the Huffman name from the lineage of Frank and Jenny Huffman (Washington, Pa) would live on.  When Simon was born I could feel that weight removed from my shoulders and could feel a smile from my Pappy, saying good job Matt.  Tomorrow, we believe to bring another boy into the world to continue the heritage set before him.  Several months ago at the ultrasound we decided this time to find out.  When they told us it was a boy, it was like the dance you want to do in the middle of your living room when you see the Green Bay Packers or the Chicago Bears losing.  Don’t get me wrong, I would do the same dance if they told us it was a girl but they didn’t.
I blog all this to say that tomorrow, the wait is over.  Tomorrow, the 9 months of anticipation and wondering will all come to an end.  Tomorrow, the heritage of the Huffman’s continues strong for another generation.
