Minor Job Change
Many people outside of camp have not heard that Matt’s responsibilities are changing. He will still be involved with the Gift-In-Kind element of Development but has already begun to take on new responsibilities in the area of Program and Stores Management. A few weeks ago, he was approached by camp to take the lead role in overseeing the family oriented retreats and summer family camps. It means working with the whole program team on setting a theme and a corresponding program (or overall purpose of what that summers activities will be in relationship to what the summers theme is going to be). It also means he will be involved in the oversight of specialty weekends like Father/Son and Couples retreats in the fall, overseeing the spring ladies retreats and winter family camp.
A secondary responsibility will be giving the general oversight and management to the three camp stores, Main Street Cafe, General Store and Coffee Shop. These responsibilites will include overseeing budgets, inventories, training, sales and anything else that fits into the existing mold of stores responsibilities.
Combining these two new responsibilities with his work on the 50th Anniverary (this year) and still maintaining the normal work load of making trips to pick up donations will keep him busier than he has probably ever been. He’s excited about the challenge and has already begun the task of bringing all these things together to make them work.

Hudson: Growing like a Weed
Sorry folks, I didn’t say Hudson was growing weed so quit misreading what isn’t there. But Hudson continues to grow and we are convinced he will be the tall one in the family. Yesterday was doctor’s appointments for both boys which included shots for each of them. Hudson did better than Simon but we will see how long that one last’s. In Simon’s protest yesterday, he shut off the computer of the doctor as she was entering information on the boys.
Here is Hudson holding his first toy. As you can see he dropped it as Julie snapped the picture, but he really was holding it. They grow quick and before we know it, he too will be trying to keep up with his big brother.

Exciting Happenings in Simons Life
As these picturs clearly show, there is a lot going on at the Huffman household these days. From Simon learning it is a lot of fun to “help” mom do things around the house, to playing with the big trucks in the living room. He is GO GO GO all day long and I can usually tell what kind of day Julie has had with him by her response when I come home.

Here Simon was trying to show off to some guests we were having for dinner by showing them what he would have looked like as a cowboy.

Of course Tonka trucks aren’t used to just haul blocks or dirt, they can also be used to haul the kids who play with them.

Lastly, Simon really enjoys helping mom with a variety of projects throughout the day which now includes wiping off the table after a meal. If I had known how much easier Simon was going to make my life, we would have had him sooner. Hopefully he can start washing the dishes as well.

I Love My Brother

Yesterday Simon got in trouble for beating up on Hudson. Afterwards I asked Simon to go tell Hudson he was sorry, and to give him a kiss. Simon ran over, gave him a kiss, and laid down next to him to snuggle for a while. It was so cute I had to share!

First Smiles on Camera

It’s hard to believe Hudson is already more than seven weeks old. And as I look back on Simon’s baby book I realize how bad we have been at taking pictures of Hudson. But that is about to change. Simon won’t hold still to have his picture taken anymore, and Hudson is all smiles. So I wonder who the camera is going to focus on now? Sorry Simon.
