Mushing with the RVA

The public charter school we use to homeschool Moriah and Carter this year is called the Rural Virtual Academy (RVA.) We had the opportunity to offer a day of mushing to the 20 students and their parents. We had close to 30 people show up and we had a great day for it. It was cold- maybe into the teens that day- but we had a great time teaching about the dogs, racing, and the sleds before going out to the trails in the Medford School Forest. We brought ten dogs in the dog box Dave built for his truck this fall, and with all the adults to help, it was an easy day. Everyone who wanted to got to drive and the younger kids took turns riding in Dave’s bag. We work with wonderful people through the RVA. Two of them came- Charlie and Sandy- both pictured- and they were helpful, ready to serve and encourgaging, as always. Moriah wasn’t able to mush due to her injury (see previous entry) which has since healed beautifully. As a matter of fact, her basketball team added one last game to the season. She was able to play and it was their only win of the season!

Wonder about Camp and the Economy?...

We wonder too. And watch. And wait.
But so far, it seems that while people are slower to register, they still roll in. Wintertainment is a camp program for high-schoolers that we run between Christmas and New Year’s Day. We were full to capacity this year- about 250 kids and staff. One mom told a staff person with tears in her eyes that she couldn’t believe the difference in her daughter after having been at camp for a week. “I almost don’t know who she is,” she said. The speaker was used of God and the relationships touched her. We are priveledged to be a part of the miracle that God continues to work in a little forest clearing in the northwoods of Wisconsin.
So while times get harder for everyone, it seems that people are still making room in their strained budgets for getting away to a place where God meets the needy, seeking heart.
