Small Computer Network Threat

OK - a geeky update from the Computer Systems Manager.  This post is for all those who have a soft spot in their heart for our little old computer network.  tongue wink

It is a struggle each day to keep all the plates spinning when it comes to our computer network.  As most of you know - I’m not specifically trained for what I do here at camp - but I tend to have a knack for it.  Keeping up to date with the latest threats like virus, adware, malware, and pests can really get my head spinning.  Especially when it comes to services we rely on not working.  Such is the frustration these last two days.  Round and round I went trying to figure out why I couldn’t get rid of this “Antivrus 2009” virus on one of our computers here.  Blah, Blah, Blah ... it came down to our network was not updating to the current list of threats…Since 12/26/2008!  In the computer world… a day is too long to be out of date when it comes to virus protection.  So, after a few deletions in the computers registry and multiple “spybot s/d"scans,  “Ad-Aware” scans, and then our own network anti virus scans I think it is actually gone.

Lessons learned: It is always OK to call tech support and frequently check to see what you set to work is still working.

Changing our look

Hey Friends and Family

As promised in our last newsletter we wanted to re-do the look our our website.  It is still a work in progress if you are viewing this on the 20th and 21st.  The “Herbal Update” really no longer IS who WE are.  Lisa came up with the idea of calling our newsletter and website the “Drackley Download” so we are experimenting with what does that look like and mean.  Jesse Schutt has been a huge help in honing my skills of this tool called ExpressionEngine.  It takes some getting used to but really does a good job once you master it.  I am but an apprentice smile.

Well we hope you keep checking back and seeing more updates - Lisa is going to start getting involved too in posting some messages.

Hey Herbie!  BLOG SOMETHING!

Top 10 Reasons this blog hasn’t been updated in over two months

10. After the engagement comes many many many many wedding plans. I, Michael, have a very important job… To say Yes, No, Um sure.
09. It has taken about two months for the people on my (Michael’s) mailing list to find the blog.
08. It takes about two months to read just the engagement stories alone.
07. Summer Camps are in full swing - Lots of meals and lots of registrations.
06. Getting to know each others families and THEIR blogs is a part time job.
05. Found out it is easier to read other peoples blogs then to maintain your own.
04. Made a choice to not have the internet at home two years ago - and why did I choose to have a blog?
03. Lisa has been such a good friend that we have found our selves finding many other things to do - don’t have time to update the Herbal Update.
02. Bauer (Lisa’s…Um…Our dog) doesn’t like to read blogs…. He finds it much more entertaining for us to say his name over, and over, and over for various reasons.
01. Creating memories these last two months has been a lot of fun.  Guess we have been sweep up in the moments and not worrying about telling the rest of the world about them.  Thanks for you understanding - we’ll (I’ll) try to do better.  But, when your in love…sometimes it’s hard to focus on anything else.
